Start Blogging Today

Have you ever thought about starting your own blog? A lot of people have but only a small percentage of people actually go through with it. It seems that the margin between people that say they want to start a blog and the people that actually do is enormous.
So it’s clear that what people say and what people actually do are often completely different things and this contradiction is known as a cognitive dissonance. Furthermore, this cognitive dissonance isn’t only seen amongst blogging but it is seen across a variety of different life practices such as entrepreneurship. For example, many people say that they would love to pursue their dreams by starting their own company. But only a small percentage of people actually take the plunge to start their own company and an even smaller percentage actually stick with it. So if you have always wanted to start a blog, there is no better time than now to take the first step.

Get Blogging

Today, my goal is to inspire you to finally create a blog. If you have been on the fence about blogging, I totally understand that putting your thoughts out to the world takes a lot of work and it is scary to be judged. But I can honestly tell you that writing consistently and telling stories has many benefits. So as you will find out below, I have noticed through experience that blogging has benefited my life in three distinct ways.

1. Written Communication

Before blogging consistently I always felt I was a terrible writer because, throughout school, I always struggled with grammar and punctuation (constantly improving) and I always knew writing was one of my weaknesses. So when I decided to start a blog it was a daunting task, as all of my work would be public and open for criticism. But after blogging regularly, I have noticed a substantial improvement in my writing style. In addition, I have been able to develop a unique writing style for myself while improving my grammar, punctuation, creativity and idea development. Basically, the entirety of the writing process for blogging is beneficial as it forces you to start from scratch and produce a quality written piece of content. For example, my blog writing process often consists of creative flow (idea generation), jot notes and conceptualizing, drafting the post, expanding my writing, editing the post and then publishing it.

2. Starting A Conversation

Another great benefit of starting your own blog is that it allows you to start a conversation. Every blog post that you publish starts a conversation, therefore every conversation that you start with your blog is entirely up to you. This is because you solely dictate what topics you actually write about and these are often based on your personal expertise and interests. Thus, having your own blog allows you to control the conversation and actually build a community around topics that you are interested in. Furthermore, a blog gives you the freedom to share your personal views, opinions, and experiences which can help you develop and define your personal brand.

3. Building Your Personal Brand

Additionally, another beneficial reason to start your own blog is that it gives you an opportunity to develop and promote your own personal brand. If you are trying to gain credibility, showcase your expertise or grow your influence, starting a blog about topics you actually have expertise in is very beneficial. This allows you to provide expert knowledge and tips regarding the topics you have experience or knowledge about. Furthermore, this approach will allow you to build a loyal audience which you can use to grow your following on social media and build personal brand awareness.

There’s No Better Time Than Now

So if you have ever considered starting a blog, there is no better time than now to actually do it. As blogging will help you improve your written communication skills, build a community and grow your personal brand. Even if you don’t have any readers, don’t worry because developing an audience will take time. Therefore, start blogging today about a topic you have expertise in or a topic that you simply love and trust me you won’t regret it.
