My Reading Journey

In a previous blog post called, “How To Read More Books In 8 Simple Steps” I wrote about how I read 42 books in 2016 and how anyone else can read more books. In that blog post I discussed how someone can simply read more books in 8 steps but I realized that if it’s your first time striving to complete an ambitious reading goal, you might not know what books you should add to your reading list. Everyone has different tastes, for example, I only read non-fiction books but the topics vary from personal development, business to psychology. So out of the 42 books that I read last year I decided to make a list of 10 book recommendations. This list of recommendations is comprised of a variety of different books that will help you learn new things, think differently and help you grow.

Book Recommendations From Influencers

Over the course of my reading journey in 2016, I noticed that many influencers in a variety of industries regularly offer up advice and book recommendations. For example, I personally listen to a lot of podcasts from influencers such as Tim Ferriss, Joe Rogan and Lewis Howes and these Influencers regularly recommend books. But it is interesting because the book recommendations from these podcasts don’t just come from the hosts of the show but also from the experts that they are interviewing or hosting. Thus, I personally find these recommendations extremely helpful in finding non-mainstream books that are impactful and informative reads. One book that has changed my life which I never would have come across was a recommendation from the Tim Ferriss Show. This life changing book is called, “The Art of Learning” by Josh Waitzkin. The Art of Learning author Josh Waitzkin has been on Tim Ferriss’ show multiple times and hearing him talk about his journey in chess and martial arts, inspired me to read his book to find out more about his journey. Thus, this example of receiving quality book recommendations from sources such as podcasts has been a great source of finding interesting reads. So I implore you to be explore books outside of the bestsellers lists because there are many other books that will change your life.
